you gotta stop counting

Luke and I spent our 6 year anniversary on the town yesterday. We seem to have gotten over the fear of the fact that we are in such a long term relationship - we prepare for the impending annual mark months in advance so that by the time it rolls around we're all "pfft! 6 years? whatevs!".

Uh huh.

Anyway, it was a delightful day which is always a good marker. Long sleep in and hugs and talking. To my mind, there's little about a relationship that can compare to morning conference on the pillow. Particularly when a delightful ginger cat is purring and curled by your legs. I always get anxious when we don't get out of the house by midday, though. I was a little anxious. But I allayed that by demanding we run for the 11:58 train. It's all semantics but it puts me in good stead.

Lots of walking, and eating (waffles! sushi!) and browsing beautiful things. I introduced Luke to the City Library and we bagged some booty, and then spent a long afternoon at ACMI, enjoying 2004: australian culture now. Alex Davies has a fantastic installation happening there. We found it hard to leave, but the hordes of tour groups made the decision a little easier.

Unfortunately our grand plan of catching a screening of Before Sunset was hindered by the August release date (Before Sunrise was the first film we watched together as a romantic unit) so instead we opted for the bizarre choice of Spiderman 2. Hmmm. Not as great as I'd been led to believe (the didactic monologues were a tad heavy handed) but distracting nonetheless.

Drinks at Cookie and yum cha at China Bar on Russell ended the day. Yum.

Oh wait, we came home and watched Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure on DVD. Should I not have mentioned that?

That's gorgeous - six years in a relationship must be lots of work (but of course also rewarding!) Ange and I recently celebrated our 18 month mark, and it's only 2 weeks til she gets back from the middle east so I'm very excited. Still hard to believe I haven't laid eyes on her for over 3 months. Also, my semester starts next week - my first semester of Honours! I'll keep you posted.

It is hard work! but yeah, I guess it must be worth it ;)

And I totally sympathise with your seperation... luke and I lived apart for almost a year and it was a real struggle. But just wait until she's back!! It's going to be amazing.

And please do keep me posted on the old Honours thing. It's good to share stories ;)

By the time Mr. Fish and I got to six years I don't even think we were celebrating anymore. Of course, it makes it hard to pick an anniversary date when your first date was on Easter...it moves around too much. *grin*

Congratulations!

easter! well that's no fun. it's like having your birthday on christmas day or something.

I'll take any opportunity to have a day out, with good eats and fun times. This is but one ;)
