chaneltopia*

It's been a while since I posted my initial chanel cole entry, and I've been holding back my myriad reactions to her weekly performances on the telly, and daily appearances in my thoughts. Inspired by Claire's outing of her Idol obsession, I feel vindicated to wax lyrical about the divine No.5 once more...

First, Marcia (or MarSHUTUP as she is commonly referred to on TWoP) needs to see someone about those issues of hers. Is she really that bitter and twisted about growing older that she needs to attack the only actual woman in the contest? This stinks of that disgusting female competitiveness which seems rife these days. If she were consistent with all the contestants then that would be another thing, but she clearly has some kind of problem with Chanel which goes beyond her performance style. Using her classic tactic of cutting off the other judges to instead inject sly insults about Chanel putting the men "under a spell" and "giving them what they want" as though she were some kind of Black Widow. Apparently womanly sexuality is a threat compared to the benign girlishness of the other female contestants.

And then when she does back off, as she did on the Beatles show, she concedes that Chanel did well because she followed Marcia's advice! Make me gag.

But enough of that tarty bitterness.

What I'm really musing over is what I want for Chanel out of this competition. I think winning it would be a disaster for her, and isn't likely to anyway - she divides people too easily. She's not like several of the other non-threatening contestants. And god forbid what would come from making an album in a week, written and sculpted by someone else as though she were a generic puppet. I suspect it would crush her. As she's already said, there are things about Idol that she struggles with. Like the slanted editing and production on Inside Idol perhaps? The neatly packaged and generic nature of the product?

I'd love for her to make it to the Top 5 and then bow out on an unforgettable performance. Something like what she did with History Repeating which i think is still my favourite of her performances. And then she can get together with some fellow eclectic musicians and collaborate on a modest album that would reflect her talents. Not some McBland disc pre-constructed by the sculptors at BMG.

Each week she reveals a little more of herself which makes me fall deeper in love with the idea of her. The comment about the ridiculousness of shooting an album cover before you know what the album is like; her "Screw You!" to the Nova DickJockeys; and her clever aknowledgement of the manipulated 'reality' of Inside Idol. If such behaviour makes her 'difficult' or a 'diva' then Long Live the Diva!

well... you must have fallen in love all over again on Sunday night. I know i did.

*purrs audibly*

and how relieved were you that she wasn't bottom 3 this week.. we (me and the wajlets) screamed and bounced around the room when they announced she was safe.

so you got your wish ... shes top 5, and i can't wait to see what she does for this intimate show they're planning, no voting, no pressure, no judging .. just a 'do as you please' moment

*prepares the VCR*

I was shocked (but happy, of course) to see Chanel stay. As soon as she's out(which I have no doubt will be in the next few weeks) Idol is losing another audience member.

Well, she's gone now. *sniff* I'm trying to figure out if I'm relieved that she doesn't have to put up with all the associated Idol crap anymore, or devastated that I won't be able to download any more Chanel mp3s! :(

I'll still keep watching, but only out of slavish obsession (I have no free will anymore), but the joy has gone out of it. I think my votes now on will represent big "Screw you!"'s to judges like Mark and Marcia that don't even judge anymore.
