suburban woe

Even though I'm an avid pedestrian, there's a limit to how warm my heart can be to relying on public transport.

Since we're living in the suburbs it's not such a breeze to swan about the city by tram or train, and when it's pelting down outside with no end in sight the task of walking 10 or so minutes to a bus stop with no shelter doesn't excite me. Then, of course, I need to change buses in order to get to uni which is in fact only a few kilometres away but inaccessible by one mode of PT and too hilly to walk comfortably...

Screw those people in their hermetically sealed cars, zooming along the roads protected from the elements. I hope your in-car entertainment systems go blooey.

I entirely sympathize! Between the snow/ice/rain, and a new job far from a Metro stop, I'm finally giving in and learning to drive a car. I feel like the last vestige of my "hip urban lifestyle" and/or moral superioirty is being stripped away. Oh, well.

I completely understand! I especially hate when drivers zoom around corners and things with no consideration for a)water splashing up at me, and b) the fact that it would be nice to let me cross the street since I am getting drenched and they are dry and warm.

I have additional angst since I got hit by an SUV last week. I'm fine, except that I am bruised and hate cars even more. ;)

*hit* by an SUV? awful!

the manslave and i were *rolled* onto by an SUV some time ago as it reversed in the street without seeing us. We were waiting to cross the street and her massive bulk (the car, not her! she was teeny) made it impossible for her to see us, and bump! It wasn't too bad except that I was wearing mary janes and somehow my feet got contorted to get stuck in the gap between the top of the shoe and the strap so i had bruised feet!

I remember when I was doing media analysis I would so often read about statistics of how many children are hit by their own parent's SUV in their own driveway because they're so huge and bulky that they just can't see them. That shit *stinks*.
