I saw Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (Umbrellas of Cherbourg) on Friday night as part of the Focus on Catherine Deneuve at ACMI. It's been several years since I've seen it, and then it had been a scratchy VHS copy. This was the restored 35mm version. Ecstasy.

I was thinking of blogging some thoughts on the film, but instead I've gone ahead and ordered this 2 Disc Limited Edition DVD from the UK so that I can satisfy my own craving for 'bittersweet reverie' in saturated colour. And it means that I can include screencaps. For what is a piece of writing on a Demy film without the visual evidence?

So expect something in this form once the DVD arrives in a few weeks. Until then...
